If a picture is worth a thousand words, this picture says...
(abridged)
Trent: Come on, Jim! You can do it!
Jim: Ugh.
==========================================
I'm happy to say that I finished my second (and probably last) marathon. Trent provided some much-needed encouragement for the last ten miles. I couldn't have done it without him. For the last five miles, I actually carried on a conversation (ok, a yelling match) with my legs. I would yell, "Come on legs!" and my legs would yell back "How about some breakfast?" and I would yell back "Come on legs!" and my legs would yell back "No" and so on...
I didn't meet my time goal, but I feel satisfied that I pushed all the way to the end. It was definitely a test of my will to finish.
Thank you to everyone who came down to Eugene! It's amazing how much energy you can get from a few seconds of interaction with loved ones.

Great Job! It was so fun to cheer you and Trent on. Your wife was so proud! It amazes me people can run that far.
Most impressive! As I read your "conversation" I think my legs even said "no."
As the announcer proclaimed as he read your names at the finish line: you two had it goin' ON! We're all really proud of ya.
Very awesome! I pretend to be a runner these days, but I cannot imagine finishing a marathon, let alone two! Nice work.
You rock, baby!
